Car Engine Components, Car Engine Parts and Functions animation & diagram
The engine is the heart of a car. It is a complex machine built to convert the heat from combustion gases into the forces that turn the wheels on the road. It consists of two main parts. The heavy part at the bottom is the cylinder block, which is the housing for the main moving parts of the engine. The cylindrical block supports pistons, crankshaft, connecting rods and oil pans. The detachable upper cylindrical head supports the camshaft, cam, intake and exhaust valves to open and close as the air-fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber. In most automobile engines, the explosive force of the air-fuel mixture drives the piston. The pistons turn the crankshaft to which they are mounted. The torque of the crankshaf...

Here's weekly dose of your catastrophic engine forensics! Every week you can find a new teardown of some abused, misused and/or poorly designed engine. Here are some of my favorites:
GM Vortex 8100 https://youtu.be/qx_CkF8PTG8
F150 5.0 Coyote Gen 1 https://youtu.be/bxunl0uPQNg
8.0L Ram V10 https://youtu.be/Ot-GbhaeaDw
Audi V10 https://youtu.be/AMj5bIRqiLE
Today's teardown is a core return from an engine we sold. We sold an engine out of a Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, a 4B11T. The Ralliart is a lower power output level version of the Lancer Evolution, which is the same engine with a bigger turbo and more boost. The buyer of our good engine was fairly unsure that we'd want his core back but YES, finally I have the chance to get one on the channel and wow was this one hurt. In this video we tear it down to see what happened, and what can be saved.
Why am I doing this? My name is Eric and I own and run a full service auto salvage business called Importapart. Part of our model includes dismantling blown and bad engines to salvage the good parts to resell. We do not rebuild engines, merely supply parts to those who do.
I really hope you enjoyed this teardown, as always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one!

Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club.

I've had more than one request for this and since I had a few hours while sitting on my butt waiting for my Dodge engine to show up I thought I would fill the time by making this video for you. I have to say that after the first edit I wasn't too happy and went back and reshot not once but twice and even then I still felt I didn't cover it the way I liked. I should really start scripting these videos, it would make my life soo much easier. Anyway don't be too rough on me if you have differing opinions as I'm willing to accept them in the comments if you are nice about it but if your going to tear me a new one then please make a video of your own explaining why as at least then we will be on the same playing field.

The torque of the crankshaft causes the wheels of the car to rotate.
Here we will look at the major parts that make up an engine.

Want to see a particular engine torn down? I may have already done one! I've made over 50 other teardowns from Cummins to an LS7, and from Rotary to Ram Ecodiesels. Check them out here https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIYwo7JlrVQVg32JL-r4H7dfMxMqzWlVa
My name is Eric and I own and run a full service auto salvage business called Importapart located in the Saint Louis MO area. Part of our model is dismantling and selling parts from rare and niche market engines. If you're interested in buying parts from this engine or the other engines I've torn down, email us at Importapartsales@gmail.com.
Huge shout out to Phil at GAP Automotive in South Florida for supplying this weeks teardown! Today I tear down a blown up(or out) BMW B58B30 Engine from a 2017 BMW 340i. This engine is used in the majority of the BMW lineup and even the new Supra! Its an engine that is still in production so I was excited to see how it comes apart, and how it came apart. Overall, I much rather work on one of these than its predecessor. This engine is much simpler than the N55. Seems to be pretty well made though I do have concerns over the timing system location in years to come.
I hope you enjoyed this teardown!
As always, I love all the comments, feedback and even the criticism! Love it all.
Catch you on the next one!
